I have to say I haven’t really been a fan of the appearance of the Adwords ads Google now shows in the above-the-SERPs positions that include the display URL in an “extended headline”. Personally I think it strongly detracts from the power of your headlines if you’re using great headline ad copy and overall looks a bit ‘blah’, especially now that they’ve also squashed the capitalization in display URLs. For those not aware of the change, in certain circumstances when your ad appears above the SERPs, Google will add your display URL to the headline likeso: That looks great if your headline says something utterly boring like “Google Adwords” as they have here, but if your headlines don’t suck it’s pretty gross-looking.

I’m just now getting around to booking my flight and hotel for South by Southwest , but I’m excited to be doing it at all because it’s one of the best networking events of the year. And by “networking,” I of course mean eating giant cupcakes, visiting funky coffee shops, and somehow sending Pace Smith into hysterics by getting Problogger’s Darren Rowse to walk into a room and loudly say, “Maple syrup!” Don’t ask. Ah, business

Ever wonder if all those links that result from people retweeting and sharing content on Twitter give you a boost with SEO? For a long time no one was sure, because the dreaded nofollow is in use on big social sites to keep those links from being counted as a “vote” for search engine purposes. No matter what, social networking links are still highly useful from a traffic perspective, because they have the power to get new readers to your content
