In just over one year, the Prose Theme for WordPress has become (in many different shapes, sizes, and colors) the face of some of the biggest publishers working online today. Ironically, some of the biggest publishers working online today are actually just normal people, doing it all themselves , with nothing more than a laptop and a kitchen table. Prose + Genesis is helping individuals build media companies.

To listen to some people, you’d think marketing were a battle or bloodsport. Think about all the military metaphors we use — identifying a target market , launching a campaign , and using strategy and tactics to crush competitors and win that desired customer.

I have helped businesses craft effective marketing materials for almost 25 years now, and I’ve had every type of client. There are the clients who want their website to appeal to everyone — no matter if that means making the design and content so bland it might as well not be there at all. There are clients who don’t really know why their service is good, or the ones who don’t have a marketing strategy beyond “pitch this product.” Sure, I could take their money and create a single-product promotion, a bland one-time campaign, or help them run one ad that they think will turn everything around
